Understanding Browser-Native P2P Data Pipelines

Traditional web-based file sharing services rely on a centralized storage model. You upload your file to their server (e.g. Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage), which saves a copy, registers it in a database, and generates a download link. The receiver must then establish a separate connection to download the file from that server. This model wastes bandwidth, doubles the total transfer time, and exposes your files to server-side leaks and third-party caching.

Share2Me uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) to bypass intermediate storage entirely. Using a WebSocket signaling bridge, our server coordinates the initial handshake between the two devices. Once the connection is established, we open an RTCDataChannel directly from browser memory to browser memory. Data is chunked, encrypted locally, and sent through the direct tunnel. Because no files are ever written to a server disk, your data remains completely private.

  • Zero Cloud Footprint: No files are cached or stored on external servers.
  • Maximum Throughput: Streams data directly at the absolute limit of your local internet connection.
  • Hardware-Accelerated Security: Encrypted client-side using native AES-GCM-256 encryption.

Bypassing NAT Firewalls and Router Blocks

Direct browser-to-browser connections are often blocked by Network Address Translation (NAT) firewalls and security policies on local routers. To address this, Share2Me incorporates a robust ICE (Interactive Connectivity Establishment) routing engine.

When you initiate a file transfer, our system query public STUN (Session Traversal Utilities for NAT) servers to discover your device's external public-facing IP address and port mapping. If both devices reside behind strict symmetric firewalls (often found in corporate networks), our system automatically redirects traffic through secure, encrypted TURN (Traversal Using Relays around NAT) relays, ensuring the transfer completes successfully without compromising the end-to-end encryption key.

Navigate to Share2Me on your sender device.

2

Step 2: Select Files

Drag and drop your files into the transfer zone or click Select Files.

3

Step 3: Share the Code

Copy the 6-digit Share Code or let the receiver scan the QR code.

4

Step 4: Stream Data

Keep both browsers open until the transfer completes successfully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Is there a file size limit?

No. Because files are streamed directly between browsers via WebRTC, there are zero size limits.

Q:Can I transfer files between iOS and Windows?

Yes. It runs entirely inside standard browsers, making it fully cross-platform compatible.
